Installing baseboard: before or after painting it..
What can I use to cut out the center section of wood base molding ?
I need to remove about 6 feet of base mold. removing he entire 15 FT creates problems. Is there a cheap way to cut out the center 6 ft?
Thanks
The best way (IMHO) is to use an oscillating multi-function tool. I suspect for years FEIN had the patent, because it must have expired since am now seeing a bunch of clones. Dremel has one here:
http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Tools/Pages/CategoryProducts.aspx?catid=21 which is available to the big box home improvement stores for $99. One of it's options is a vibrating saw blade which usually used to cut away door jams to allow clearance for new flooring. With this you can simply do a plunge cut straight through the molding. If you want to bottom-line cheapest try harbor Freight here: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=65700 currently on sale for $39.99. (I own this machine). It is certainly adequate for this job, and you may find it useful for others. It removes a thin piece of material, so patching if necessary will be minimal. Good luck....
