Dance Gavin Dance - Rock Solid (Live)

Which Team Will Be An Unexpected Contender in 2008?

I'm going with the Houston Texans. I think they had a really solid run last year and started putting it all together in the last quarter of the season.

What do you think?

I agree that the Texans are in a good position to make a run. If they can land another talented CB and a true RB, they'll be much more competitive. Unfortunately, they play in the toughest division in the NFL. Can they beat out the Titans, Jags, or Colts for a playoff spot? Ehhh.... maybe sneak into 3rd place, but I can't see them getting past 2 of those teams.

The Texans are very underrated - did you know that they went 7-3 in nondivisional games? Their tough division is killing them - if they were somewhere else, they would have gone much better than 1-5 in the division and been a wild card team. Unfortunately, I think their division will kill them again this year.

My picks are the Eagles, Vikings, and Rams.

The Eagles had a heartbreaking season - lost 5 games by 4 or less, played in the most competitive division in the NFL, had all of their perrenial pro bowlers miss multiple games to injuries, and had all the nonsense with Andy Reid's family. It's do or die time for Reid, and I think he'll make a splash at WR somehow, which will open up the offense, revitalize McNabb and put the Eagles in a good position to make a run at the division title, but more than likely, they'll settle for a wild card in a tough division. If the Eagles strugge again, Reid is gone, and McNabb will be too.

The poor Rams were disappointing last year, but most of it was due to injuries. They lost their star runningback, entire offensive line, starting QB, standout WR's.... and thats just the offense. I believe that at one point in the season, they only had 2 or 3 of their original 11 starters healthy and on the roster. With a healthy Steven Jackson, Bulger, and offensive line, look for them to go 8-8 or 9-7 and make a run at their awful, weak division. They need to improve on defense as well, and I believe that they'll spent their early draft picks on D or O-line.

The Vikings have a phenomenal run defense - their Williamses (how do you pluralize that? lol) are two of the best. They need to improve in pass rushing, which will help their overpaid secondary keep their pass defense alive. Of course, Adrian Peterson looks to be the next star, but even without him, Hutchinson and Mount McKinney clear the path for anyone they throw back there. Jackson shows promise from time to time at QB, and I think Childress likes him. I'd trust in him as he seems to have a nose for QB's who get the job done (see Feeley, McNabb, the Detmers, etc.). If Jackson improves, and they get a good receiving option, this team could challenge Green Bay for the division, but I'd still have them penciled in as a wild card for now.
