Explanation:
Phil Jaques would come into the side to open the batting. He has shown us that he can play at test level. He has been a prolific first class run scorer for his state over the years.
Michael Hussey would retain his place in the side. He showed us at the oval, what he can do. If Hussey plays in that dominant form, he is hard to get out. With 10 centuries to his name and an average of over 50, he is a good player on his day.
Mitchell Johnson is still in the side because he is a genuine wicket taker. He may go for a few runs in the process, but he will always be threatening and can deliver the odd magic delivery that will get most batsmen out.
Brett Lee would definitely play if fit. Lee has matured a lot throughout his career. Like Johnson, he is fast and a wicket taker and a brilliant athlete. In the 2005 ashes series, he showed us that he can bowl well and take wickets in England.
Nathan Hauritz would play for the oval test because Australia made a mistake when they left him out recently. He can build pressure up on the batsmen and take wickets, even on a flat pitch. Collingwood getting out at Lords for example.
These players would be my choice that would make the best balanced combination for Australia.
