AMD Phenom II x6 Black Edition or Intel i5 Sandy Bride?
I'm trying to make a new gaming and was wonderin if i should go with intel or amd. I plan on overclocking and makin the cpu watercooled so it really just matters which one is faster. I plan on having 8gb of RAM, Radeon 6870 card, 750w PSU, and a really nice motherboard.
The I5-2500k stomps a proverbial mudhole in the Phenom II X6. Contrary to popular belief the X6 isn't all that fast, It will lose to just about any quad core Nehalem or Sandy Bridge CPU in nearly all aspects of computing. The only times where the X6 has at least some parity is in heavily threaded apps that most people will never use, and even then it's very close. For gaming the Intels will blow away any AMD CPU. Of course if you want to compare hexacores to hexacores. Intel's Gulftown CPU's completely own the Phenom II X6's in all respects, except price. But you've got to pay to play
