What is the best big screen tv rear projection, LCD or plasma?
We will be buying a big screen tv (probably around 52") soon and don't know what is the best. We have heard that the plasma tvs don't last as long and the ones we have looked at are higher in price. We are looking for something that is not huge in size like some of the rear projection models but want a big screen with good picture without an outrageous price. Any tips?
It sort of depends on a few factors....
RP is ok if you are extremely limited on cash...
LCD is best if you have a well lit room. Because it is a backlit technology it shows better.
Plasma is best if you watch mostly at night or in a dimly lit room because it has better blacklevels becuase it doesn't push light thru the screen. So the blacks look black not grey. The statement that most Plasma's are EDTV is completely incorrect. Most are HD TV.
LCD's now have reasonably priced 1080P models. Thats the horizontal line scans (1920x1080) That gives you more pixels (dots that make up the screen) meaning a more life like picture.
In summary:
Go with LCD unless you only watching at night or a dark room.
