My black moor goldfish keeps swimming in the same spot in the corner at the top, is something wrong?
I just recently got a black moor gold fish today and he is swimming in the same spot in the corner at the top, with his mouth towards the top of the tank. There are two other goldfish in the tank a common and a fin tail in the tank. Its a 20 gallon tank, so there is plenty of room between the three. Is there anything wrong with him?
First, your tank is too small. That common will get over a foot long and is best left in a pond. The fin tail is a veil tail. You need at least 35 gallons for one goldfish and 10 gallons for each additional goldfish. This means you need at least a 55 for them. If you plan on keeping the common, then you will need to move it to a 55 gallon on its own.
Second, you should never mix fast swimming varieties with slow swimming varieties. The faster common will nip the other two's fins and tail and could eventually kill them.
Third, your tank is probably suffering from several things: lack of oxygen, ammonia poisoning, and nitrite poisoning. You can fix these things by doing several small water changes (10%). Make sure that you use water conditioner each time. Do two 10% water changes as soon as possible. Don't do more than 10% at once as you may kill your fish if you haven't been doing weekly water changes. Tomorrow, do two more 10% water changes and do it again the next day. Don't forget the water conditioner.
As soon as you can, get a filter that is rated for 30+ gallons. You should always over-filtrate with goldfish. Also get an air pump, air tubing, and some sort of air stone/wand/decor. This will help with oxygen levels in your tank.
You should do 25% water changes starting next week. Do it at least once a week for the life of your fish.
