The legacy of car audio entertainment

The legacy of car and home audio surround sound has come a long ways over the year. In the past the focus was on speed and how much horse power the car had, and those cars were nice. As time went by the old 8-track player and crappy 6x9 speakers were no longer sufficient to satisfy the new youth. The cars were the same but the sound quality, volume, and looks drastically improved. The 8-track went on to be a cassette deck, still on the same crappy speakers, and the look had not yet changed.

Cassettes, in my opinion, were a great invention. They were very durable and if your junky cassette deck eats the tape most of the time it was fixable. However no mater how durable they were, they could not match the sound quality of the new up and coming CD era. When compact discs came out they were a new wave of technology that introduced quality sound and a potential for some of the best sounds anyone had ever heard before, and the best is still yet to come.

With CD players as the new car audio decks they had better sound quality as well as the capabilities to produce louder volumes. With louder volumes, it was time for the speakers to make a change with the times. Now the speakers in a car went from only 2 low quality to an assortment of better quality and higher watt speakers. Usually ranging in the numbers of 4-6, the speakers were capable of handling higher powers and producing ear piercing sounds.

As they CD quality was good enough at this point, the speaker era took over. People were adding amplifiers, crossovers, subwoofers, power booster, and other items that constantly improved the sound with each addition. Once the speakers were as loud as you wanted it was time to add a subwoofer or 2 or 3. With a subwoofer, your neighbours are sure to be complaining as you install and fine tune your sound. The bass produced will vibrate the very soul of the people around you, and it is a good conversation peace.

So now you have a nice CD deck in the dashboard, a beautiful sounding set of speakers (maybe even running on their own separate amp), and a collection of subwoofers with appropriate powering amplifiers. But wait, you are not done yet. You best be sure you have the correct powering system otherwise you could be blowing fuses or constantly draining your battery out. No worries, install an extra battery and a power booster or two and you can go your way delivering high powered quality sound to people, even those who don't wish to hear it.

The problem you may have now is your car. Even though it may be a beautiful classic piece of art it now vibrates and rattles due to the added bass. This rattling is mostly only heard by others as you drive past. And the first thought threw their head is "I cant believe a nice car like that should sound like it is falling apart!" so don't forget to walk around the outside of your car and listen for the rattles yourself. Find them, fix them, and don't look like a fool with a nice car and and sounding stereo with rattles and nasty noises.

Great, the system is ready, your car is ready, are you? Roll that piece of art out and let the world hear your pride, and crank your best tunes and show off your ride. That CD (possibly even the new age CD/DVD media player), combined with your speakers, subs, and collection of amplifiers and accessories will surely have heads turning to see what that music to their ears is. Even though not everyone will appreciate the work you have done, everyone will notice and that's what matters.
